Time fer some hockey, eh?
After dinner last night, we went out with some friends to enjoy a truly cultural experience. The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks took on the hometown Durham Thundercats at the Arena. We sat with the faithful fans who (I think) live for hockey season. They were full of all sorts of encouraging words for the refs and the opposing team! Sort of. Anyway, it was a pretty good hockey game. Both teams have good records but unfortunately, the Thundercats lost 4-2. After that game, I think we understand Canadians just a little bit better. ;)
Spasibo!
(That means 'Thank You')
Last night the second year students and staff here held a potluck dinner for our language helpers. Right now, Erin is in a practicum where she uses the language learning skills that she has learned so far. The instructors pair the students up with people from the community who's first language is not English. For this practicum, Erin is working with a lady named Lydia who speaks Russian. We had a fun time at the potluck last night with Lydia and her husband Erich along with all the other students and their language helpers. It was our chance to say thank you for all the time and effort they have put into this practicum.
